The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha today took out processions at four locations in the Dooars and submitted memorandums to local police stations in protest against alleged police atrocities in the hills.

In the Dooars, around 400 Morcha supporters took out a rally at Chamurchi under Banarhat police station.
As they headed towards the entrance gate on the India-Bhutan border, police stopped them. Amitabha Maiti, the superintendent of police of Jalpaiguri who was present at the spot, told the protesters that they would not be allowed to demonstrate on the border.
The Morcha supporters after some time returned to the local market. Around 5pm, they held another march in the area and submitted a memorandum to the police.
In Alipurduar, the Morcha organised rallies in Birpara, Kalchini and Jaigaon. Ahead of the procession in Jaigaon, on the India-Bhutan border, Bhutan issued a circular, asking its citizens not to enter India till the event was over.(TT)
