After a long wait, Gorkha community can now finally hope to have their own Gorkha Welfare Centre at Saket in the national Capital where they can avail multifarious facilities like gym, accommodation and library.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee on Wednesday inaugurated and laid foundation stone of the proposed Centre with a click of a button from the lawns of West Bengal State Guest House (Bangla Bhavan) at Chanakya Puri here.
The proposed Gorkha Welfare Centre is to be constructed at an estimated cost Rs. 20 crore and will have around 40 rooms and suites along with multifarious facilities like conference room, library, gym, recreational room and medical facilities etc. It aims to cater to the needs of Gorkha students, officials and general populace visiting Delhi for various purposes, said a statement here.
Among those present on the occasion at Chankaya Puri venue was Chairman of GTA Binoy Tamang while at Saket, the programme was officiated by Indranil Sen, MoS, Information and Cultural Affairs and Tourism, WB and Anit Thapa, Vice Chairman, GTA.
