Kalimpong Chicken Festival at Trikone Park by Who Cares
Kalimpong: An NGO here will host a unique culinary event to appeal to the collective soul of the residents and raise funds for the treatment of a child who is suffering from an yet-to-be identified ailment.
Who Cares, which works for the homeless and the destitute, will organise the first-of-its-kind two-day Kalimpong Chicken Festival at the Trikone Park here from Friday.
Aron Yonzone, the founder of Who Cares, said the festival would offer assorted chicken delicacies to visitors, but, more importantly, the proceeds from the sales would go to fund the treatment of 15-month-old Anil Chhetri. "We thought of doing something unique here to raise funds for the kid. Chicken fests are held in other towns and cities. We hope the fest will become an annual event in Kalimpong," he said.
Anil, Yonzone said, suffers from an unidentified ailment. "Doctors in Siliguri have advised his parents to take the kid to Vellore for proper diagnosis and treatment. Since his parents are poor and cannot afford the money needed to go to Vellore, they approached us. Our NGO, too, does not have adequate funds. We will start a fund for Anil with whatever profits we earn from the festival," he said.
Sonam Chombay Bhutia, the coordinator of the NGO, said the culinary fare on offer at the festival included traditional Nepali chicken soup and curry, assorted tandoori items and exotic chicken fruit salad.
